A new type of plastic bottling technology
allows companies to package hot-fill products
in containers with smooth rather than ribbed
or panelled walls. This new design will help
PET to participate in this packaging field where
glass bottle is used so far due to limitation
of the plastic bottles.
Previously plastic bottles used for hot-filling
beyond 70 degree C needed ribs or panels in
the sidewall to absorb the distortion that occurs
as the beverage cools to room temperature.
Amcor
has developed new type of PET bottles called
“PowerFlex” bottle by designing a special base
to absorb the vacuum created by cooling liquids.
A diaphragm within the base draws upward as
the liquid cools. The inverted cone shaped diaphragm
deflects upward as the vacuum is created, absorbing
any distortion that may affect the sides of
the bottle. |
