A new PP grade with 1500 MFR is ideally suited for melt blown fiber

Melt blown fiber from PP generally requires very good flow. So far, 800 MFR grade first developed by Exxon Mobil was considered to be the work horse for melt blown PP fiber.
Basell, the world leader in PP, with more than 5.5 to 6 million tons capacity of PP, has recently introduced a grade that has MFR of 1500 and therefore has excellent flow behaviour. This new grade can offer advantages in production of thin fibers or micro fibers. It can also produce fibers with softer feel. It has improved barrier properties such as hydrohead that can be achieved at much lower processing temperatures with significant cost savings in the melt blown process compared to standard high fluidity resins. The lower processing temperature is expected to be beneficial during production of coloured melt blown nonwovens, as it can minimize organic pigment degradation and improve processability .
