Additive Synergy is a key to achieve flame retardancy in plastics

Flame retardancy is becoming increasingly important in several applications. Infact the usage of flame retardant (FR) additives has reached a level of close to one million tonnes, almost 15% of the total additives that are used in plastics.

Additive suppliers have carried out significant development work to achieve synergy of different materials to achieve better fire retardancy at a lower costs or at a lower environmental impact.

Antimony trioxide, a major FR additive has been a combined with several halogenated additives like solid chlorinated PE, Bromo derivatives as well as non-halogenated additives like Zinc Borates or Zinc Oxide, Mineral Sillicates, Magnesium compounds and even Iron compounds.

Synergistic technology thus plays an important role in extracting best performance.
