Plastic heat shrinkable tubings are traditionally produced from
PVC, Fluoropolymers and Polyolefins. PET heat shrinkable tubing has
emerged recently. PET offers excellent stiffness and electrical properties
to heat shrinkable tubes at very low thickness where conventional
plastics cannot be used. PET thickness can be reduced to almost 5
microns. PET tubes are presently available in diameters ranging from
0.25mm to 25mm. These tubes have been used in the medical electronics
field. Some of the applications where PET tubings have made inroads
are: Ultra sound catheters and probes, theremocouples for measurement
of tissue temperatures, heart monitors and electrophysiology catheters.
Smaller profiles of PET heat shrink tubes provide greater space that
offers value in sophisticated medical electronics.
